The Town Manager or their appointee may determine an abatement for solid waste and recycling collection fees for a property. These abatements include but are not limited to a dwelling that has an unoccupied unit for 6 continuous months, a dwelling that has obtained a contract with a private hauler, or a smaller size bin exchange. All Solid Waste fees must be current and you are responsible for paying your Solid Waste Collection Fee until a decision is reached.
Types of Abatements
Abatement for private hauler: The owner must provide a copy of the contract with the hauler to the DPW. Documents must include the service address, the number of units, the contract price, and the term of the contract.
Abatement for unoccupied unit(s) in a multi-unit dwelling: The unit must be vacant for 6 months of the billing period. Documentation in the form of all 6 months of utility bills must be provided as proof of vacancy. If approved, the abatement will be assessed at $95 for the 6 months of vacancy. if approved.
Abatement request for 34-gallon bin exchange: Requests must be received by June 30 for 1st half of semiannual billing and December 1st for 2nd half of semiannual billing. The owner requests to exchange the 64-gallon trash bin for a 34-gallon trash bin. The total semiannual solid waste collection fee for a 34-gallon bin is assessed at $130.
